Rules of
Use
14. What are the rules of use for I-Land's iCalendar?
15. Who do I contact with other questions about iCalendar?
1. What
is iCalendar?
iCalendar is an Internet-based
events listing that covers the entire I-Land service area in
West-Central Missouri. Developed for the exclusive use of I-land
subscribers, iCalendar allows
I-Landers to:
-
Add events. iCalendar
is a great way to inform others of events such as: benefit
auctions, school activities, and sports events. If it's of
general interest to our subscribers, we'll typically provide a
free* listing on iCalendar.
* only I-Land subscribers may add event listings.
-
Search listings.
View and print a calendar of events in a traditional calendar grid
format, in a running event list, or by specific event. Want
to know the events in a particular town or county? No
problem. That information is just a click away!
2. How
can I access iCalendar?
Access iCalendar
(while connected to the Internet via your I-Land account) at http://calendar.iland.net.
3. Who
can access iCalendar?
Only subscribers of I-Land Internet Services have
access to view and post iCalendar
events. As of the end of August, 2000, that translates to more
than 12,750 households and businesses throughout West Central Missouri
that can access iCalendar.
That makes I-Land the biggest "community" in the entire
area!
4. Can
any event be listed on iCalendar?
Events should be of general interest within some
geographic portion of I-Land's service area. Commercial events
(unless also of general interest) do not qualify to be listed.
If you aren't sure that your event qualifies, you may submit it for
our consideration. We'll add it or send a quick response
explaining why we could not. Please do not submit events
that are clearly strictly a commercial activity (i.e. "Big
Kitchen Appliance Sale").
Example events we'd list:
school functions; board and council meetings; art exhibits; benefit
auctions, plays and musical productions, concerts, sporting events,
auto races, county fairs, church pancake suppers and other special
events, craft & hobby shows, meetings of civic organizations.
Example events we wouldn't
list: strictly commercial activities; ongoing functions such as
weekly services or year-long revivals; private/semi-private club
meetings.
5. How
can I add an event to iCalendar?
From the iCalendar main page,
choose "Add Events", then fill out the form for event
submission. If you are unsure if the time an event will end, or
the event does not have a specific time that it is ending, just make
the ending time be the same as the beginning time. Also, be sure
to correctly fill out the email address field with your email address.
That way, we can contact you with any problems on your submission, and
can let you know when your event has been approved.
6. I
just added an event to iCalendar.
Why doesn't it show up?
Events submitted to iCalendar
are not automatically added directly to the calendar. They must
first be approved by I-Land's iCalendar
administrator before being published to the live calendar.
7. How
long will it take before my event is added to iCalendar
listings?
Submitted events are typically approved (or declined) by
the end of the next business day, if not sooner.
8. My
event is tonight! Why can't you add my event to iCalendar
now?
iCalendar is a
free supplemental service for I-Land's subscribers. But our
first focus is on the access and hosting services that our customers
pay for. So we must administer iCalendar
at the time that best fits the rest of our business schedule. We
recommend that you submit your event to iCalendar
well in advance of the event itself.
9. Does
I-Land verify the events listed on iCalendar?
If a submitted event
is clearly fictitious, we won't list it, of course. But in
general, we do not verify each event, and make no representation
as to the accuracy of specific event listing(s). Intentionally
false or misleading event submissions could result in immediate
termination of a customer's service, among other actions.
10. Incorrect info is
listed on iCalendar
about an event I submitted or am involved with. How do I get it
corrected?
Fill out another event submission form. In
the "event description", note that there was an error in the
original event listing, and we'll update it if appropriate. The
time frame for this edit is the same as the time frame for the initial
submission: we will typically make necessary adjustments by the
end of the business day after which the adjustment was submitted.
11. Incorrect
info is listed on iCalendar about
an event I'm not involved with. How do I get it
corrected?
Someone who is involved with the event should
submit a corrected listing, noting the previous error. If you
have no contact at the event, email "calendar@iland.net".
We'll either contact someone connected to the event, or add a note on
the event listing to warn of a reported possible error.
12. Why
do some events show up in every iCalendar
view, even if they don't take place in the town or county I've
selected?
If we feel an event is of general interest to many
communities, not just those in a particular community or county, we
may, at our discretion, "publish" the event to all
communities. Examples would include the Missouri State Fair and
the Whiteman AFB Air Show.
13. How
do I get my
iCalendar event to show
up in every town or county?
The iCalendar
administrator decides which events will be published to "all
communities".
14. What are the rules of
use for I-Land's iCalendar?
The basic rules of use for all I-Land services are
found in our Acceptable Use Policy. In addition to the
acceptable use policy, any intentionally false or misleading event
submissions, or attempts to otherwise misuse or abuse I-Land's iCalendar
may result in a response from I-land that could include immediate
termination of a customer's service without refund.
15. Who do I contact
with other questions about iCalendar?
If after reading this FAQ, you have more questions
about use of (or policies regarding) iCalendar,
send an email to calendar@iland.net.
Your question will be answered within the following business day, if
not before.
